Built in 1787, Cossit House is one of Nova Scotia’s earliest examples of neo-classical Georgian architecture. This one-and-a-half-story, wood-framed home was originally constructed with timbers from New England, assembled on-site in Sydney. Its exterior features a rubble-stone foundation, a gable roof, and six-over-six wooden windows, typical of the period. Inside, notable features include a central hallway plan and paneled walls in the front hall, reflecting its historic character. Though it has changed ownership and undergone renovations over the years, the house has been restored to its appearance during Rev. Cossit’s residence (1787–1800). Today, Cossit House and its surrounding grounds are recognized as a provincially designated heritage site.
St. George’s Anglican Church, situated at the corner of Charlotte and Nepean Streets in downtown Sydney, Nova Scotia, is a notable local landmark. Constructed between 1785 and 1791, this stone Gothic Revival-style church embodies a simple, elegant design that exudes dignity and strength. Both the church and its graveyard are protected as part of the provincial heritage designation.
